Symptoms
Symptoms of Acute Mesenteric Ischemia:
- Acute mesenteric ischemia can affect both men and women of all ages
- It manifests as very intense abdominal pain that often appears suddenly and worsens rapidly. It is uncommon for individuals to remain at home during this situation due to the severity of the pain. Upon the arrival of emergency services or at the emergency room, an injection of morphine is often necessary to alleviate this pain
- Other signs may include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal swelling, discomfort, and gastrointestinal bleeding
Symptoms of Chronic Mesenteric Ischemia:
- Chronic mesenteric ischemia most often occurs in patients with cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol, a history of vascular diseases (lower limbs, carotid arteries, coronary arteries), cardiovascular disease, and kidney failure
- Symptoms are often related to meals and include abdominal pain after eating, loss of appetite, fear of eating, and weight loss
- Tests conducted in this context are often negative (endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT scan)
